AFA Member Fast Track to CE Marking

The following will be required in order to determine what tests need conducting, what attestation system you will need to comply with and some indication of costing. Please provide the following:

    1. Whether any of the carpets you sell into the EU contain fire retardants, including any that may be in the backing or adhesive.
    2. For each type of carpet i.e. nylon, polypropylene, wool/nylon, please give the different percentage(s), polyester etc, the pile weights (as a minimum of two extremes), the types of backing on each, and whether these carpets are on a roll or tiles. Some indication of color would also help if, for example the shades are all fairly neutral or whether they have deep colors, etc.
    3. The number of factories involved in their manufacture.

Upon our receipt of this information, you will receive a request of specimens together with some financial forms including costing etc. Specimens will need to be 2.5 square meters of each option.

Depending on the range of pile weights, a typical testing schedule should be for say just 100% nylon with one backing would be:

  • Full test on minimum pile weight in red shade
  • Full test on maximum pile weight in shade red
  • Indicative test on minimum pile weight in darkest color
  • Indicative pile weight on minimum pile weight in lightest color
  • Indicative test on maximum pile weight in darkest color
  • Indicative test on maximum pile weight in lightest color

Note: This testing is assuming that all fall within the one classification bracket. If some are in one class and some are in another, you have the choice of going with the lower class for all the range or doing additional tests to determine which is in one class and which the other. (But we can cross that bridge if we come to it!)

Indication of Costs

One Full Test: ,500
One Indicative Test: ,130
One Classification Report: ,250
One Extended Application Report: ,350
Total Package: ,2120

For the second backing we would additionally conduct a full test on the worst case of the above so you would have an additional cost of a classification report and a full test, i.e. ,750.

Fire retardant additives places you in system 1 and in addition to the testing costs, you will need a factory audit and there will be certification costs. We will provide further financial information depending on your responses.
Please contact us with your product information. We will provide you with a specific quotation, pro-forma invoice and forms etc.

Please note that a payment will be required prior to commending work, as you will be a new client.
